This past weekend I experienced the first of 3 flash animation workshops I am taking this term. After months of fascination (and 8 hours trying to figure the program out for myself) I decided it would be a good skill to have as I head out into the advertising world. Sure, I may never become a genius at it, but the basic skills and understanding of the program will be a big help in determining what can and cannot be done in animation, interaction, etc. (That and the program is just so darn cool!)

Flash is everywhere today. From the scroll down menus on websites, to the funny videos we find when we should be working, to the games we play when we REALLY should be working… Okay, aside from the procrastination factor, flash does add a lot of special nuances to the digital world. It can be used to make complex animation in a small file size, digital buttons, video animation, motion, interactivity, layering, and more. In addition it is very universal.  Over 90% of all web browsers are compatible with flash programming.

So what have I done so far? Well, as flash is a fairly complex program I am still working on the most basic movement animations. But here is the in-class work we did as well as the assignment I just finished for the next class. Below, you can also find some links to much more advanced (or just fun) flash creations I have found on the web.
